What We Were Never Taught About Grief

A different way to understand loss, recovery, and what it means to feel complete, because most of us were never taught how.

Tuesdays 7:00pm-8:00pm, free to register.

About This Event

We all experience loss. But most of us were never taught what grief actually is, or what to do when it happens.

We may have learned to give it time. Stay busy. Be strong for others. Keep going. Or say, “I’m fine,” even when we aren’t.

And we often associate grief only with death, when loss can show up in many areas of our lives.

What We Were Never Taught About Grief is a live educational session that offers a different way to understand grief, loss, and recovery.

Together, we'll explore some of the beliefs and habits we learn about grief, why the people around us may struggle to support us, the difference between temporary relief and recovery, and what it can mean to be emotionally complete after loss.

These sessions are informed by the foundational education in The Grief Recovery Handbook and my work as an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist™.

It is not the Grief Recovery Method® program and does not teach the action steps or recovery components of the Method.

What We'll Explore

During these sessions, we'll talk about:

  • Why grief is about more than death

  • Why grief is a normal and natural response to loss

  • What many of us were taught about dealing with grief, and why some of it may not help

  • Why even people who care about us may not know how to support us

  • What can happen when “I'm fine” becomes a way of life

  • The difference between short-term relief and recovery

  • What “recovery” means in the context of grief

  • What it means to be emotionally complete

Sessions May Be for You If...

You've experienced a loss and aren't sure what to do with what you're feeling.

You find yourself functioning, working, caring for others, and continuing with life, but recognize that something still doesn't feel complete.

You've wondered why time hasn't necessarily changed how you feel.

Or perhaps you've never thought of what you've experienced as grief at all.

You don't need to know whether you need grief support or be ready to take any particular next step. Come to learn, reflect, and consider grief from a different perspective.

What to Expect

These are live, interactive educational sessions on Zoom.

We'll spend approximately 60 minutes together, followed by an optional 15-minute Q&A for those who would like to stay.

You are welcome to participate in the conversation and chat, but you will never be required to share personal details about your loss.

Please note: These sessions are educational and is not therapy, counseling, or a substitute for mental health treatment.
